CTO Dr. Jeffrey Britt Takes Helm of Solar Technology Leader, Implements Strategic Focus on Building Industry

Tucson, Ariz. – November 5, 2009 – Global Solar Energy, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-efficiency Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) solar material and the only company in large scale production of CIGS on a flexible substrate, today announced that Michael S. Gering is retiring as President and CEO of Global Solar Energy, Inc. and Dr. Jeffrey Britt has been appointed his successor. Mr. Gering, 73, will remain on the Board of Global Solar and serve as Chairman, dividing his time between his residences in Annapolis, Maryland and Tucson, Arizona.

As Board Chairman, Mr. Gering said of Dr. Britt, “Jeff has demonstrated outstanding leadership as CTO, helping guide the Company through the most challenging market conditions the solar industry has ever encountered. Jeff’s vision and experience have helped strengthen Global Solar’s position as leader in the solar market and the Board is confident he will successfully lead the Company into its next stage. Jeff will direct Global Solar’s shift to
more comprehensively serving the BIPV market, a fast growing sector where our unique offering of flexible, highly-efficient solar technology provides unmatched potential.”

Dr. Britt joined Global Solar in 1998, guiding the R&D and engineering teams, and became CTO in 2005. Dr. Britt played a key role in developing the Company's manufacturing facilities in Tucson and Berlin. Dr. Britt has authored or co-authored more than 45 publications and holds two US patents. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Florida in 1989, and a B.S. in Physics from the University of Florida.

“Over the course of the Company’s 13 years, Global Solar has reached several impressive milestones—from technology, manufacturing and overall business perspectives—which have put the Company well ahead of its competitors in terms of product efficiency, yield and quality,” said Dr. Britt. “As CEO, I am looking forward to sustaining those accomplishments, while also focusing our goals, which include ongoing support for our
engineering and technical capabilities and the introduction of new BIPV products. The next several years hold enormous promise, as energized building products change the look and grow the size of the solar market.”

As Global Solar’s Berlin, Germany and Tucson, Arizona manufacturing plants execute on the Company’s technology roadmap and corporate strategy, the Company continues to work with leading businesses in the BIPV and building markets, such as Dow Solar Solutions (a division of Dow Chemical Company). In addition to the Company’s focus on BIPV, Global Solar will continue to support its state-of-the art flexible, portable solar products under the SUNLINQTM brand.

About Global Solar Energy

Global Solar Energy, Inc. is a solar industry leader that manufactures highly-efficient thinfilm solar cells for glass module or flexible material products. Global Solar is the only Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) manufacturer in full-scale production on a flexible substrate. Unlike traditional solar panels that are rigid, heavy and fragile, Global Solar's thin-film solar modules are lightweight, flexible and durable. Its thin-film CIGS strings are not dependent on silicon and instead use highly-available raw materials that are easily integrated into a wide range of applications for use in commercial, residential, utilityscale and government products. Global Solar flexible CIGS cells create more electricity from the same amount of sunlight than do other flexible PV technologies and therefore have a lower cost.
