CIGS Solar Field

The world's largest CIGS solar power PV system using Global Solar Energy thin-film photovoltaics is located here in Tucson, Arizona at our corporate headquarters. Global Solar Energy produces thin-film photovoltaic material using a patented CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide) process. Read more about our unique process used to create this technologically cutting-edge material.

The 750 kW solar power PV system is financed, owned, and operated by Renewable Ventures, a Fotowatio Company. Global Solar Energy manufactured all the photovoltaic cell material for the field; the CIGS glass solar panels were manufactured and installed by SOLON Corporation. The system went live on December 2, 2008 and part of its power is utilized in the Global Solar Energy manufacturing facility.

Facts about the CIGS Thin Film Solar Power PV System:

  • The 750 kW system is made of 6,600 solar panels and covers over 5 acres of land.
  • Generates 1,200,000 kWh annually, providing about 30% of Global Solar Energy's annual energy needs.
  • First commercial-scale installation of Global Solar Energy's thin film CIGS technology.
  • Will offset 30,000 tons of CO2 over its 25 year lifetime.
