ABOUT US
Global Solar Energy is a privately held company that was incorporated in 1996. Since 1996, Global Solar Energy has evolved into a major producer of thin-film photovoltaic Copper Indium Gallium DiSelenide (CIGS) solar cells. Global Solar Energy now manufactures and distributes its CIGS solar cells as well as its innovative flexible, foldable, portable solar chargers and next generation glass modules. In 2008 Global Solar Energy expanded from a 25,000 sq. ft. factory to a 100,000 sq.ft. factory quadrupling the manufacturing capacity in the USA, and added another factory in Berlin, Germany.
MANAGEMENT
→ Mike Gering, President/CEO
Mr. Gering joined Global Solar Energy as President in October 2001 following an 18-year career at Litton Industries.
He joined Litton's Amecom Division in 1983 as Navy Aviation Marketing Manager, and was subsequently appointed Director of Business Development. In 1993 he was promoted to Vice President of Business Development and the following year was named Vice President of EW Systems.
In December 1995, Mr. Gering was promoted to Vice President and General Manager of the Amecom Division, and in June 1997, he was promoted to President. During the period from December 1995 to August of 1998, the Division's sales grew from $ 47 million to more than $ 100 million. In March 1999, Mr. Gering led the acquisition of Denro, Inc., a telecommunications company, and managed the consolidation into his operating division. In August of the same year, Litton's Amecom and Applied Technology divisions were merged into a new entity named Litton Advanced Systems, Inc., with sales of $ 215 million. Mr. Gering was named President at the time of the merger.
He served 25 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and retired with the rank of Colonel. While in the service, Mr. Gering had tours with both the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and served three tours duty in Vietnam. He has attended both the Wharton School and the Harvard Business School under the Litton Executive Education Program. A graduate of The Citadel, Mr. Gering has a B.S. in Chemistry.
→ Steve Alexander, CFO
Mr. Alexander joined Global Solar Energy as its Chief Financial Officer in January 2008. Previously, he served as an outside Director of the company, serving on its Finance and Audit committees.
Prior to joining Global Solar, Mr. Alexander managed a business unit for a major financial services firm. From 2001 to 2005, Mr. Alexander was Director of Energy Investments for UniSource Energy Corporation, the former parent of Global Solar and in that capacity, served as the CFO of Global Solar, as well as President and CEO of another one of UniSource’s subsidiaries.
Mr. Alexander holds an MBA in Finance from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. He served six years as a flight officer in the US Navy after graduating from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
→ Jeff Britt, Ph.D., CTO
As CTO Dr. Britt oversees Global Solar's R&D and Engineering, including the development of the technology roadmap, budgeting, staffing and project leadership. He joined global Solar in 1998 and helped develop the company's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Tucson, Arizona. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Florida in 1989, an M.S. in Engineering Science, also from USF, and a B.S. in Physics from the University of Florida.
Prior to joining Global Solar, Dr. Britt was Director of Photovoltaic Development at Energy Photovoltaics, Inc. of Lawrenceville, N.J. There, he was co-principal investigator for multiple subcontracts from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory that supported the development of CIGS solar modules. Dr. Britt has authored or co-authored more than 45 publications and holds two U.S. patents.
→ Tim Teich, Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Mr. Teich joined Global Solar in 2003. In this position, Mr. Teich is responsible for all thin-film product sales and marketing world wide. Prior to coming to Global Solar Mr. Teich worked in custom electronics design and manufacturing where he held positions of Vice President of Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales and Marketing, President/CEO and Board of Directors for Advanced Input Devices. Mr. Teich holds an MBA and BSBA from Trinity University, Electronics Degree from North Idaho College and attended Battelle Institute of Science and Technology for Technology Management.
→ Doug Mason, Vice President of Manufacturing
Mr. Mason started with Global Solar in 1997 bringing an extensive hands-on knowledge of systems design and mechanical skills. For his first seven years with the company Mr. Mason focused on the initial development programs associated with the CIGS process which later evolved into involvement in all the processes related to Global Solar products. Mr. Mason was promoted to Manufacturing Director in 2003 and took over managing the entire process flow for the factory. In 2007 Mr. Mason was promoted to VP of Manufacturing to further promote and manage the growth and expansion of Global Solar factory operations. Prior to his work with Global Solar Mr. Mason spent 15 years with the Toyota Motors Company.
